The first Democrat elected after the Civil War, Cleveland was the only President to leave the White House and return for a second term four years later. He was inaugurated on March 4, 1885, and defeated in his reelection bid in 1888, left office on March 4, 1889. Winning the 1892 election, he was inaugurated for the second time on March 4, 1893.

An 11 by 15 inch photograph, matted and framed to a 21 by 25 inch presentation, signed and dated “Grover Cleveland, March 2, 1889.” At that time, he was just two days short of turning over the reigns of presidential power to Benjamin Harrison. It is the largest signed photograph of him we have carried.
