Rare Wartime Signed Brady CDV of Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman, From the Collection of a Member of Grant’s Staff

Union general whose victories in the west, conquest of Atlanta, and subsequent March to the Sea played a major role in bringing the Civil War to a conclusion. A CDV showing Sherman in uniform during the Civil War, by Matthew Brady, signed "W.T. Sherman, Maj. Genl."

Sherman signed quite a number of cabinet photographs after the war, most commonly in the 1880s. This was not at all the case during the war, and one seldom finds signed CDVs, no less ones by Brady. This is the first we have ever carried in our three decades in this field.
