Nixon battled Communism for decades, and through his detente with the Soviet Union understood how to deal with that nation’s leaders. He felt that the Cold War was going badly in the late 1970’s and wanted to provide an assessment of the state of affairs along with suggestions on how to best cope with the struggle. This led him to write The Real War which was published in 1980. "We must face up to the stark reality," says Nixon in this book, "World War III has begun, and we are losing it…It is a war we can win…”
He then relates how the U.S. can use its political, economic and military strengths to turn the tide, providing some of the same advice as President Reagan used when the Cold War was won. A first edition of the book, signed by the author on a tipped-in signature card designed for signed copies.
