Benjamin Fitz-Bourne Hunter led an expedition to resupply Captain John Fremont during the War with Mexico, and later led land forces during that war in the campaign for Los Angeles. Document Signed as President, 1 page folio, July 15, 1847 appointing Benjamin F.B. Hunter to the rank of Master in the United States Navy “…in no wise to affect his claim to promotion to the rank of Lieutenant…”. Very good condition, on vellum with an embossed seal, countersigned by John Y. Mason as Secretary of the Navy.
