President William McKinley was inaugurated for a second time on March 4, 1901, on the East Portico of the U.S. Capitol. After Garret Hobart, McKinley’s vice president during his first term, had died in 1899, McKinley had carried on without one. Theodore Roosevelt would serve as McKinley’s vice president for only six months, between March 4 and September 14, 1901.

Intaglio engraved by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing but without imprint.
