PT boat commander and war hero in the South Pacific, John F. Kennedy was 29 years old when he was elected to the House of Representatives from Massachusetts in 1946. He served three terms, then ran for the Senate in 1952. He beat Henry Cabot Lodge in a close election, getting 51% of the vote. It looked like an easier glide to gain reelection in 1958, and so it proved, as he got 73% that time.
He had a photograph taken for his reelection bid, being 41 years old at the time. Signed photograph, black and white and 8 by 10 inches, taken during his 1958 reelection campaign, inscribed and signed, “To Lawrence Bernstein, with every fond wish, John Kennedy”. This is the first time we have seen this particularly nice image signed.
