A partly printed check on the First National Bank of Washington, filled in and signed Jan. 4, 1870 for $30 to Benjamin DeWolff. Very good, cancellation cuts barely affecting the signature. Benjamin DeWoilff was probably the New York jeweler of that name. Perhaps Grant has purchased a Christmas gift for his wife.
