It would seem that the age of Ôfemme de trente’ [lady of 30 years]’ is over for you, and you will have to take the next decade seriously. My father was in the habit of saying (where did he get this?) Loving eternally staves off age and I follow that philosophy consistently. You are well on your way to it, too; and to that I also say, you better believe it.” The letter is in German but is signed in English ““Your old friend Martin.”
There are letters above and below from other family members wishing the lady a happy birthday. His belief in the value of love was likely a prime motivation in his risky opposition to Nazism. Good, with a small piece out at the upper right corner.
