During the 1950’s, it can almost be said that Johnson ran the U.S. Senate, so complete did his control over that body seem. This also made him the most powerful southern politician of the day, the very reason John F. Kennedy selected him as his vice presidential running mate in 1960. JFK’s choice ultimately propelled Johnson to the presidency.

A superb 8 by 10 inch photograph of LBJ at the very pinnacle of his senatorial power, inscribed and signed. A note on the verso identifies him as Majority Leader of the Senate, a post he held from 1954-61.
