Signed by Orville Wright: An Early Aviator’s Pilot’s License Issued by the National Aeronautic Association of the United States and the Federation Aeronautique Internationale

Inventor of the airplane along with his brother Wilbur. A license for Joseph D. Bassler to be a pilot under the rules of the Federation Aeronautique Internationale and the National Aeronautic Association U.S.A., which certified pilots. This is dated September 4, 1929, is signed by Orville Wright as Chairman of the Contest Committee, by George Ferris as Executive Vice-Chairman, and by Bassler himself. The license is a small booklet imprinted in gold on the front “Aviator’s Certificate”, and contains a photograph of Bassler, who was born in 1907. Judging from this, Bassler would have started flying in the mid-1920s, making him a pioneer aviator.
