James Russell Lowell was a poet of the Romantic era, critic, editor, and diplomat. He is associated with the Fireside Poets, a group of New England writers who were among the first American poets that rivaled the popularity of British poets. His depiction of dialect, as well as his many satires, was an inspiration to Mark Twain. Lowell was also an early abolitionist, and editor of the Atlantic Monthly. As a diplomat, he served as U.S. ambassador to Spain and then Great Britain.
A very uncommon Carte de visite of Lowell, the first we’ve had.
