President Rutherford B. Hayes Authorizes the Ratification of a Convention Between the United States and Belgium

The Convention between the United States and Belgium, concerning the rights, privileges and immunities of consular officers, sought to formalize diplomatic relations between the two countries.  The treaty text was fixed in March 1880 and was ratified in June.

Document signed, as President, Washington, June 25, 1880, authorizing the seal of the United States to be “affixed to my ratification of the consular convention which was concluded between the United States and the King of the Belgians on the 9th of March, 1880.” An uncommon treaty-level document, the first we’ve had for some time.
