Exhibit at William & Mary Showcases Unpublished Archive of James Monroe Letters Acquired From Raab

The Raab Collection works directly with the families of famous Americans in the sale and preservation of their family treasures, discovering and bringing to the market many of the nation’s great historical documents.

In 2016, the firm acquired one of the finest archives ever offered for sale– More than two dozen letters, which have never before been published, documenting communications between James Monroe and his Secretary of the Treasury, William Crawford. They were brought to The Raab Collection by William Crawford’s great-great-great-great grandson, who described finding the letters in a box at his mother’s house.

William & Mary Libraries has acquired the letters from Raab, and are displaying a selection of them for the first time in an exhibit held at Muscarelle Museum, which will run through May 14.
