The Bush Dynasty: A Letter Signed by Presidents George HW Bush and George W. Bush, As Well as by the Patriarch of the Family, Senator Prescott Bush
We have never seen a combination of the autographs on one sheet before
In 1958, young autograph collector Harold (Skip) Hensel wrote Senator Prescott Bush asking for an autograph. In 1958, young autograph collector Harold (Skip) Hensel wrote Senator Prescott Bush asking for an autograph. He received back a letter on Bush’s Senate letterhead, February 26, 1958, saying “In response to your letter of February 22nd, I am pleased to enclose for your collection a copy of my biography, as well as my autograph.” After working as a Wall Street investment banker, Bush represented Connecticut in the Senate from 1952 to 1963. In the Senate, he staunchly supported President Eisenhower and helped enact legislation to create the Interstate Highway System.
Over the years Hensel wrote to both presidents George HW Bush and George W Bush, asking them would they sign the same paper as their father and grandfather. Apparently touched by this, both did so. George HW Bush has written “From Prescott’s son, Best, George Bush”; and George W. Bush has written “From President George Bush’s son, Best, George W. Bush.”
Over all these decades, we don’t recall an autographed item signed by both presidents Bush, no less one that includes the founder of the dynasty Prescott Bush. We have just obtained this directly from the collector, and it has never before been offered for sale.
