Charles A. Lindbergh was the first person to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, and a great pioneer and promoter of Air Mail service.
An oversize (14 X 6½) stamped envelope addressed to the Air Mail Traffic Agent at Chicago, signed by Lindbergh with a huge signature as the pilot of the plane from Chicago to St. Louis, with two oversize horseshoe cancellations saying ”Lindbergh again flies the Air Mail.” At the lower left are spaces for the signatures of Lindbergh as pilot, and the Postmasters of St. Louis and Springfield, Illinois, A.J. Michener and William H. Conklin respectfully. The Air Mail Agent, Benjamin F. Myers, has additionally signed under the return address. There are also two 15 cent stamps and two larger Lindbergh Air Mail stamps cancelled in Springfield and St. Louis. Additionally, on the verso are cancellations from the Chicago Air Mail Registry and from Anglum, Missouri, which was the home of Lambert Air Field which served St. Louis at the time. Perhaps the largest Lindbergh signature we have seen.
