George Plitt was a Pennsylvania attorney, as well as a friend and advisor to Buchanan from the early years through his presidency. Plitt handled many financial matters for the busy politico. A bachelor, Buchanan was warm friends with Mrs. Plitt, who also provided advice and friendship to Buchanan’s niece (and effective First Lady) Harriet Lane.
