Sold – Dickens Is Overwhelmed With Requests

English novelist sends his autograph but declines an invitation.

English novelist, author of Oliver Twist, David Copperfield and many other classics.

Autograph Letter Signed in full in the 3rd person, Tavistock House, April 10, 1854 to Mr. Stone. “Mr. Charles Dickens presents his compliments to Mr. Stone and regrets that he cannot accede to Mr. Stone’s request simply because he is asked so many times in the course of a year to do the same thing that compliance is absolutely impossible.” As Dickens was always generous to those seeking donations, and always up for a dinner, it seems likely that Mr. Stone wanted him to read a manuscript.
