SOLD Montgomery Will Stay With Ike in the White House

"I am going to visit Canada and the U.S.A. in November next year. I shall spend most of my time in the States in Washington, staying with the President at the White House.".

British field marshal, counterpart of Eisenhower in World War II.

Typed Letter Signed on his personal letterhead, 2 pages small 4to, September 14, 1953 to his American friend Bill Griffin. “I must thank you for arranging with Henry Luce to send me "Life" magazine again; as I told you, it had stopped coming. The copy of 31st August has just reached me and I am very glad to have it. I like the American issue as it contains all the advertisements. It is addressed to Isington Mill and that’s where I like to get it. Please thank Luce very much for continuing to sent it. I have been planning my activities for 1954 and I am going to visit Canada and the U.S.A. in November next year. I shall spend most of my time in the States in Washington, staying with the President at the White House. But I shall attend the Army and Navy Football Match at Philadelphia, which I think takes place about the 30th November. And I will of course pay you both a visit in New York…Monty.”

Included is a one page 8vo Autograph Letter Signed of Montgomery dated August 3, 1954, also to Griffin, saying he is “not in favour of taking on the Radio News analysts” on his last day in New York. There is also a telegram to Griffin from Monty in 1956, and another brief note signed by Montgomery with initials.
