Their campaign slogan is inscribed above them, “Justice to Harry of the West,” thereby comparing Clay with the Whigs’ last successful candidate, William Henry Harrison. This type of lithograph featured a double portrait of presidential running mates that was designed to evoke a large banner that might be carried in a political parade.
