An Autograph Letter Signed, Cincinnati, June 6, 1857, to Messrs. H.H. Goodman and A.T. Graves. “I have to acknowledge the honor of receiving your letter of the 3rd inst. I accept with pleasure the gratifying distinctions which your society has been pleased to confer upon me, though I am at a loss to know what there is in my reputation or character which entitles me to it. Oblige me, gentlemen, by making known to the society which you represent my acknowledgements for the honor it has done me, and accept for yourselves individually the assurance of my respect and best wishes.”
Goodman was a Cincinnati banker, insurance company executive and dry goods wholesaler.
