A 7 1/2 by 12 inch sepia imperial cabinet photograph of the Queen wearing her crown, signed “Victoria RI” and dated 1882.

The R in the signature stands for Regina (Queen) and the I for Imperatrix (Empress of India). In that year, the Empire grew as Egypt became a protectorate after British troops occupied land surrounding the Suez Canal to secure that vital trade route and the passage to India. Electric lights were installed on the streets of London, and the Queen’s relationship with John Brown was in full swing. The finest and largest signed portrait photograph of Victoria that we have had.
