Document Signed, Exchequer, January 13, 1779, apparently authorizing payment. It initially cites the amount: “The half year ending at Lady Day 1778 of Nine Hundred and Ten pounds Eleven Shillings & Twopence.”
This is signed by the Duke of Newcastle, beneath whose signature North has signed, saying “Allowed the 16th day of Jany. 1779.” In England, March 25 is called Lady Day. All leases and contracts well into the 18th century were dated from that day.
