Signed Photograph of Presidents Nixon, Ford, Carter and Reagan

Inscribed to one of Hollywood's greatest producers, Paul Keyes.

Paul Keyes was a television writer and producer whose credits include some of the great hits of the 1950’s and 1960’s – The Jack Paar Show, The Dean Martin Show and Rowan and Martin Laugh-In, among others. He was nominated for 10 and won 3 Emmy Awards, and in 1994 was inducted into the Producers Guild of America Hall of Fame. Keyes was keenly interested in politics and watched the election returns in 1968 with Richard Nixon (and always claimed to have been the first person to address Nixon as "Mr. President").

On October 8, 1981, the four living presidents of the United States (Reagan, Ford, Carter and Nixon) gathered to attend the funeral of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat. As they prepared to leave for Egypt, a photograph of them was taken to record the moment for history, and prints of the picture eventually became available.

Keyes obtained an 8 by 10 inch color one and in 1985-6 circulated it to the chief executives with requests that they sign. All did, and more importantly, added interesting inscriptions. President Reagan, the sitting chief executive at the time, alluded to his acting career and his being ever-ready to accept a role, quipping "Dear Paul – We’re available & ready to travel. Ronald Reagan."

President Ford complimented Keyes on his ability to keep his integrity in the Hollywood rat race, saying "To Paul, one of the finest, on a fast track. Gerald R. Ford." President Nixon praised Keyes highly in his inscription, "To Paul Keyes – Hollywood’s best producer. Richard Nixon / 1-15-86."

President Carter simply wrote, "Best wishes to Paul Keyes, Jimmy Carter / 4-86." Included is a photocopy of the letter Keyes wrote to Nixon on January 8, 1985, asking him to inscribe the photograph. "I am enclosing a copy of the photograph taken at the White House on your departure for President Sadat’s funeral.

This copy was inscribed and sent to me by President Reagan. I would deeply appreciate it if you…would inscribe the picture to me. I will then seek to secure inscriptions from Presidents Ford and Carter. The single photograph autographed by the four of you would indeed be a rare memento…." And so it is indeed.
