An Autograph Document Signed with certifications signed by Jonathan Trumbull, Jr. and Gen. Philip Schuyler. Trumbull was Pay Master General of the Continental Army in the Northern Department, and later military secretary to Gen. Washington. After the war, he became Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.

“An Account of Monies rec'd by Capt. Richard Varick from the Paymaster General on Account & for the use of M. General Schuyler - Dated Albany August 26, 1776. 1776 July 1. By Cash on Receipt in Continental Currency 1,200 pounds 2. By ditto 2,000 “ 15. By ditto 200 “ By ditto (in Specie) 300 “ August 13. By ditto in Continental Currency 400 “ 17. By ditto 200 “ 21. By ditto 200 “ For this sum of 4,500 pounds I have this day obtained Genl. Schuyler's warrant on Mr. Trumbull & have cancelled my former receipt.” Varick signs the document here. “August 26. By Cash of Mr. Trumbull, on Genl. Schuyler's warrant in favor of Lieut. Col. Buell for billet of officers of Col. Burrel's Regiment dated April 14th, 1776 31 pounds 15 shillings 10 pence By ditto on warrant dated April 16th, 1776 in favor of Dr. Edward Sutton of Col. Burrel's Regiment for medicines etc. 117 8 8 By ditto on ditto dated April 16, 1776 in favor of Capt. Josiah Harmer for billet of officers of Col. DeHaas's Regiment. 18 6 By ditto in favor of Capt. John Watson for 40 cartridge boxesÉDated April 16, 1776 17 17 4 August 26. By ditto on warrant in favor of Capt. Varick dated August 26, 1776, for monies paid to Capt. John Johnson & Col. Wynkoop. 21 4 6 Albany August 27, 1776. I do hereby certify that the above is a true account of all the monies rec'd by Capt. Varick from me, on Genl. Schuyler's account.”

This is signed “J. Trumbull, Jr., P.M. General.” On the verso is another certification in Varick's hand. “Albany August 27, 1776. I hereby certify that Capt. Richard Varick has accounted with me for the within mentioned sums of money rec'd by him from Mr. Trumbull, amounting to four thousand five hundred pounds & that he has paid me this day the within sums amounting to two hundred & six pounds twelve shillings & four pence New York Currency.” Gen. Schuyler has signed here.
