Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna

Mexican political leader who greatly influenced early Mexican and Spanish politics and government, first fighting against the independence from Spain, and then supporting it, rising to the ranks of general and president at various times over a turbulent 40-year career. He was President of Mexico on eleven non-consecutive occasions over a period of 22 years.

Dolley Madison

John J. Pershing

A soldier in the United States Army. Pershing eventually rose to the highest rank ever held in the United States military, equivalent only to the posthumous rank of George Washington: General of the Armies. He was born near Laclede, Missouri and graduated from United States Military Academy at West Point, New York in 1886.

John L. Stevens

United States Department of State Minister to the Kingdom of Hawai'i when he conspired to overthrow Queen Lili'uokalani in association with the Committee of Safety, led by Lorrin A. Thurston and Sanford B. Dole.

Raoul Wallenberg

Swedish humanitarian who worked in Budapest, Hungary, during World War II to rescue Jews from the Holocaust. Between July and December 1944, he issued protective passports and housed Jews.

Richard Varick

Revolutionary War officer and aide to Washington, he was later mayor of New York City.

Robert Spring

Famous American forger, specializing in George Washington.

Sam Houston

United States politician and military leader who fought to gain independence for Texas from Mexico. Houston's signature is large and beautiful and a staple of many Texicana collections.

American politician from Illinois, was one of the Democratic Party nominees for President in 1860.
